About the Role
We are looking for a Senior U.S. Tax Accountant to join our growing team. This role is suited to an experienced U.S. tax professional who is comfortable handling U.S. tax returns independently, researching technical tax matters, and working with clients on more complex U.S. and international tax issues.
The successful candidate will play an important role in the preparation and review of U.S. tax filings, while also supporting tax advisory engagements and helping ensure our clients receive accurate, practical, and timely advice.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone with strong hands-on experience in U.S. taxation who can take ownership of tax engagements from start to finish.
You should be comfortable working with complex U.S. tax matters, identifying potential issues, conducting technical research, and communicating your findings clearly. Experience with Canadian-U.S. cross-border taxation and other international tax matters is highly valued.
We value technical knowledge, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently. As a remote team, strong organization and communication are equally important.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review U.S. federal and state income tax returns for individuals, businesses, trusts, and other entities.
- Prepare U.S. international information reporting forms and related filings.
- Handle U.S. tax compliance matters involving Canadian and other international taxpayers.
- Review client information and identify tax issues, missing information, and potential filing requirements.
- Analyze the U.S. tax implications of transactions, investments, business activities, residency changes, and other cross-border matters.
- Review tax returns and work prepared by other team members for accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor filing deadlines and manage multiple client engagements effectively.
- Work with the team to improve internal processes, tax workpapers, and compliance procedures.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in U.S. tax, preferably in a public accounting or U.S. tax advisory environment.
- CPA, EA, or other relevant U.S. tax/accounting designation is preferred.
- Experience with U.S. international tax and information reporting is strongly preferred.
- Strong technical research and analytical skills.
- Ability to independently manage tax engagements and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with professional tax software and Microsoft Excel.
What’s in It for You?
- Fully remote work with flexibility.
- Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.
- Work directly on client engagements and more complex tax issues rather than focusing solely on routine compliance.
- A professional and collaborative working environment with opportunities to take on greater responsibility as the firm grows.
What happens next?
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and shortlisted candidates will be contacted to arrange an online interview. Depending on the position, a follow-up interview or discussion may be arranged before a final decision is made.
